Meilink designs and produces innovative packaging for the four 2019 Dutch Solar race participants

Meilink is working with the four teams on beautiful solutions and innovative designs for packing and transporting these solar cars. It is an entire process from design to the final development and delivery of customized solutions of the crate packaging for the transport of the solar cars to Australia. This collaboration with the solar teams fits very well with the sustainable image that Meilink strives for. Moreover, it is a wonderful project: working together with young, enthusiastic and committed people who are achieving great successes.

A great challenge every year

This year Meilink is actively and enthusiastically supporting the four Dutch teams. The technically-innovative and sustainable, future-oriented aspect of both the product and the participants, combined with the enormous challenge of the competition itself is of course great! Meilink is enthusiastically contributing knowledge and experience.

A unique design for every car

The four crates, in which the cars will be transported, are custom-made, each with its own specific features and requirements. For the solar cars, the student teams have developed flexible packaging with a number of Meilink employees. These are suitable for transport by air freight or sea freight, so they are also suitable for transport in containers over land in Australia. This week, the TU Delft team reported that the solar car arrived safely in Australia.

Working together on precision work

To build the transport boxes for the special solar race cars, Meilink provided its expertise. In cooperation with the students, the wishes and innovative ideas were worked out, which also focused on sustainability. Because the cars are built of sensitive materials, in addition to the box itself, so-called mold support is necessary on all sides so that the transport will be as safe as possible. This is an enormous challenge, at the same time the work that Meilink delivers to its customers every day.

Because the solar cars were made especially for this race, the packaging is also completely different from that of previous years. Some used materials from previous years' crates have been sustainably reused for other purposes. We wish all teams the best of luck in achieving their goals!
