Carrier Jan van Dam approached Meilink's specialist branch in Rotterdam about a long-running project to ship a Kiremko production line in stages to India. Wouter van Munster, Commercial Director: "We have already shipped more than 80 containers from the Netherlands, as well as several flatracks, including two flatracks with an over-width and over-height of 4 metres wide, more than 8 and 9 metres long and each 3.99 metres high. And then about 350 kilometres overland in India!”
Complex logistics projects
Many Dutch machine builders consider shipping abroad essential because that is where their customers' production sites are located. This requires close alignment with the project planning by all parties, as well as extensive expertise in global project delivery. This is exactly why Jan van Dam turned to Meilink: "We were requested to take a leading role in this project because we are well versed in complex projects and have built up a very reliable network. This is exactly what you need when you have to deliver on location, on time and undamaged in all kinds of regions. Our partnership allows Jan van Dam to ship machine parts and baking ovens to their destination at the end customer's premises in Ahmedabad, India, without any hassle."
Partnership and transparency
"We work together so that the end customer can be provided with a complete package. It is also important to understand what is possible and to identify pitfalls to ensure that things actually work out. To that end, we went together to Gujarat province, where Ahmedabad is the largest city with a population of more than 8 million people. Jan van Dam ensures that all goods arrive from Kiremko in Montfoort to the terminal in Rotterdam. This is where we take over, as we arrange sea freight and all the arrangements needed to get the containers to their destination by land. The most challenging aspect was getting two huge baking ovens, the Corda Invicta fryers, from Montfoort to the production site. A conventional ship instead of a standard container ship had to be used to ship them to India.”
